Gov

Sir,

I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of His

26382. Majesty's Treasury Mr. Grindle's letter of the 4th instant

relative to the further contribution of £250,000 by Hongkong towards the expenses of the war; and in reply

I am to say that They entirely concur in the answer which Mr. Long proposes to send to the Governor. My Lords would be glad to receive in due course copies of any Ordinance relative to this gift and to present a Minute to Parlia- ment recording this addition to the generous gifts already

made by the Colony.

It would be convenient, if the Governor of Hongkong sees no objection, for this gift to be paid to the Treasury Chest Officer, Hongkong and My Lords would be much obliged if the Governor would inform the Treasury Chest Officer, if he feels able to adopt this course and would cause Them to be notified of the probable dates on which payments will be made.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Melamar
